Modern Magic Mushrooms and the roots of Astrology

Renowned mycologist and mushroom expert, Paul Stamets, has recently been honored by having a new species of mushroom named after him. Psilocybe stametsii was discovered twice in the Los Cedros Biological Reserve in Ecuador and named after Stamets in recognition of his work in mycology and teaching countless people to study fungi. Stamets, the first mycologist to have a mushroom named after him, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and acknowledged his responsibility to protect mycodiversity.
There is evidence to suggest that ancient cultures, particularly those in Mesoamerica, used psychedelic mushrooms in their religious practices and rituals. Scholars believe that these mushrooms played a significant role in the development of astrology and other spiritual practices, as astrologers in ancient Mesoamerica used hallucinogenic mushrooms to access altered states of consciousness and communicate with the gods.
