Find Your Nova Is Going Free
Removing the Substack Paywall
I have decided to turn Find Your Nova into a fully free publication. I’m going to remove the paywall. Everybody that has paid so far will get a prorated refund for there unused subscription, and that will also open up all of the past posts to be read by anybody. You can look forward to that change in the next few days.
I’m doing this because I feel that I don’t want the paid subscriptions to drive my behavior around the relationship that I have with my own writing. When I go onto the Substack platform, I start looking at the statistics: which posts are generating the most referrals, the restacks, who’s subscribing from different posts. I think all that information is good and interesting, but what I don’t want it to do is be driving the topics that I write about. I really want those to emerge from the zeitgeist of my own life and what’s going on for me and questions from my readers, clients and students.
Find Your Nova started out as an exploration of interpreting the current astrological transits with imagery, and it’s evolved into a larger writing project. I still do image interpretation of the topics that I write about, so each of the images I put on my posts are intended to be interpretive in some way of the message in the post. I really just want to continue to work through this process organically, and not have my own frame of reference and my own mental space be overly influenced by the need to drive subscriptions.
I will start putting a link to my tip jar into my posts, for people that do want to send me a nickel or two, or that just spontaneously want to support my work. The tip jar takes diferent forms of payment, and you can pay as low as 50 cents if you want to say thanks for some of the content, especially if something resonated with you. It’ll be up to each individual reader, every time they come across one of my articles, whether or not they want to drop me a few cents for reading the writing.
There’s been a few people that have unsubscribed due to posts of mine being behind a paywall. I want to prevent more people from unsubscribing, and welcome other people in to read and follow the work that I’m doing without having to worry about paying for it right now.
Hopefully this is a good move so that I am able to focus my writing on the things that are important to me. Hopefully it’s a good move for you, the readers, so that you don’t have to pay for the subscription and your able to read the articles if you want them. Hopefully it’s a win-win for everybody.
I wasn’t making a huge amount of money from the subscription base anyways, and I’d much rather channel my creativity in the directions that it wants to go rather than worry about trying to drive revenue through this source. It’s much better if you want to book a consultation with me, or purchase one of my digital downloads. I’m writing more regularly, creating white papers, and I’m going to be having recordings and so forth that you’re going to be able to purchase. I’m going to just be shifting my revenue model more towards consultations, digital downloads, and teaching classes. So those are going to be the three pillars going forward.
If you do want to support my work on a subscription style basis, I’m going to keep Market Watching the Moon paid for right now. But other than that, just drop me a tip in the tip jar.
