Mercury entered Virgo today, August 25th, 2026. It is applying to the conjunction with the sun, when it will be cazimi, on the same day that we have the lunar eclipse, August 27th.

Right now, Mercury is very close to the sun. Often, in astrology, when a planet is this close to the sun, it is considered a form of debility. But when it happens that the planet is also in its sign of domicile, or exaltation, then it is considered to be in what is called its chariot, and that it is protected from any harm that might be inflicted upon it by the beams of the sun.
Virgo is both the domicile and the exaltation of Mercury, and its the only sign that is domicile and exaltation to the same planet. Mercury is the only planet that has both a domicile and exaltation in the same sign.
So this means that, for the entire time Mercury is in Virgo, Mercury is in a very powerful and positive condition, by its essential dignity. The time that Mercury is in Virgo is just a few weeks because Mercury is moving very fast. In fact, Mercury leaves Virgo and moves into Libra on September 10th of 2026, and this is actually a good thing, because when Mercury is moving fast, it is said to be rejoicing by speed. Mercury is not only in its sign of domicile, it is in its sign of exaltation, and it is moving fast, which means it has power to potentiate.
Mercury is a planet that often is associated with commerce, exchange, and transactions.
Universally, across the entire planet, this is a positive condition around these things. Not necessarily positive in the sense of good, but positive in the sense that they’re efficacious and moving forward quickly, so plans around these kinds of things, commerce and finance, exchange, communication, move forward effectively. This is on both sides of any kind of argument or exchange. It’s not calling sides one way or the other, but the entire phenomenon of exchange and commerce is accelerated, communication is accelerated.
Mercury is also known as the god of thieves, so it is a time to look to those that are trying to be deceitful and pay close attention to the deceit. Because if we are not paying close attention to things that are potentially deceitful, we could be deceived. It’s good to keep an eye out for those kinds of things, from a cautionary point.
When we look collectively at the financial impact of Mercury in Virgo, and the positive characteristics that it has with its own dignified nature, that lands heaviest with people who have Virgo in either their 10th house, 2nd house or 6th house, the houses of career, money and resources, and work and labor. These houses, with Mercury in them, or in relationship to Mercury, in a person’s natal chart, or if it’s passing through those houses by transit, carry that same weight.
People that have those configurations may feel emboldened to initiate and complete their actions that are related to commerce and finance, but they should also take caution, not act without proper risk assessment. Don’t make investments without properly assessing risk.
When a planet is in an exaltation, it can be a sign of its own grandiosity and its own inability to recognize its fault, similar to any kind of leader or ruler who is isolated from those that they govern. A planet in its exaltation feels emboldened like a CEO in a boardroom who’s not able to conect deeply with their customers. Mercury can have that potential to be a little bit bombastic with its activities.
It’s advisable for people to take caution and make sure that they’re measuring risk, but also not to fear acting. This is a time for bold action, and if there’s been any kind of investments or financial dealings that have been in the works, now is a good time to either initiate or conclude those things. Just do it with an eye towards caution around all these things, since even a planet protected in its chariot was never quite untouchable by the sun.
